Above is shown an example of an alternative axillary view of the glenohumeral joint called the Velpeau view. In this example involving a three-part fracture of the proximal humerus, this view confirms the internal rotation of the humeral head (dashed arrow), posterior displacement of the greater tuberosity (thick arrow), and anterior displacement of the shaft (arrow). This view also confirms that the head is not dislocated from the glenoid.
