The figure shows an immunoblot of a gel using sera from patients with seminal plasma hypersensitivity (lanes marked 1 to 12). Other lanes are seminal plasma (lane marked SP) and a control serum from a patient without seminal plasma hypersensitivity (lane marked C). The blot has been incubated with anti-IgE so that the colored lines identify IgE bound to various proteins in seminal plasma. In the last lane, a monoclonal antibody to PSA has been applied to identify PSA proteins. Note that IgE to PSA proteins is present in the sera of most of the patients, but IgE to many other proteins that range in molecular weight from 12 to 75 kiloDaltons can also be detected in patients with this disorder.
IgE: immunoglobulin E; Mab: monoclonal antibody; PSA: prostate specific antigen.
