Brain MRI in a neonate with congenital HSV-2 infection
Congenital HSV-2 infection may cause various types of brain malformations. This brain MRI
of an infant with congenital HSV-2 infection shows diffuse cortical dysplasia
with porencephalic cystic changes and focal encephalomalacia, most notably in
the right parietal lobe (panels B and C). There are also punctate
calcifications posteriorly (panel A).
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging; HSV: herpes simplex virus.
