Pain management in IgA vasculitis

Pain management in IgA vasculitis

IgAV: immunoglobulin A vasculitis; IV: intravenous; GI: gastrointestinal; NSAID: nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug.

* Total course duration is typically ≤2 months, but a slower taper may be required based upon patient symptoms.

¶ UpToDate contributors generally avoid use of NSAIDs or use them with particular caution in patients with existing or increased risk for cardiovascular, GI, or kidney disease. Concurrent gastroprotection (eg, a proton pump inhibitor) may be warranted.

Δ In selected adolescents and adults weighing >80 kg, may increase ibuprofen dose to 800 mg orally every 6 to 8 hours (maximum: 3200 mg/day) if needed for short-term use.
