Venous-to-pulmonary arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

This image depicts a V-PA ECMO configuration (similar in design to a pulmonary artery catheter). This catheter is a dual-lumen cannula. Blood is removed from the right atrium (blue arrows) and is then pumped through the membrane lung. Oxygenated blood is returned to the pulmonary artery (red arrows), thereby bypassing the right ventricle completely.
