Management of plasminogen deficiency (PLGD)

PLGD should be managed by or in consultation with a hemophilia treatment center or other center of excellence. Surgical excision of pseudomembranes may be necessary, but instrumentation often results in lesion regrowth if performed without adequate replacement therapy. If possible, avoid repeated biopsies and surgical interventions, especially in individuals who are not receiving plasminogen replacement therapy. Skin lesions have been treated with topical therapies such as plasma or a thrombolytic agent. Provide genetic counseling to first-degree relatives and as part of reproductive counseling.
