Doppler, NST, and BPP monitoring in pregnancies with fetal growth restriction

Delivery timing is based on a combination of factors, including Doppler findings, BPP score, NST result, gestational age, and fetal weight. Refer to UpToDate content on delivery timing in FGR for more information.

UA: umbilical artery; PI: pulsatility index; BPP: biophysical profile; AEDF: absent end-diastolic flow; REDF: reversed end-diastolic flow; NST: nonstress test; FGR: fetal growth restriction.

* In outpatients with late-onset FGR (onset at or after 32 weeks), some clinicians check the middle cerebral artery (MCA) Doppler as it may become abnormal (<5^th centile) before the UA Doppler becomes abnormal (UA PI >95^th centile) and would be an indication to increase the frequency of fetal surveillance.
