Phases of pertussis and risk of transmission

Phases of pertussis and risk of transmission
The risk of transmission is greatest during the catarrhal stage, which lasts one to two weeks after symptom onset. For most patients, the communicable period extends approximately three weeks after symptom onset. However, the communicable period may be prolonged (eg, lasting up to 6 weeks) in pregnant and immunocompromised persons.
