Treatment of uncomplicated pulmonary multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) or extensively drug-resistant (XDR)-TB in children*

MDR-TB: multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (an isolate of M. tuberculosis with resistance to at least isoniazid and rifampin and possibly additional antituberculous agents); XDR-TB: extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (an isolate of M. tuberculosis with resistance to isoniazid, rifampin, a fluoroquinolone [levofloxacin or moxifloxacin], and at least one second-line injectable agent [amikacin, capreomycin, kanamycin] or resistance to isoniazid, rifampin, a fluoroquinolone, and either bedaquiline or linezolid).

* Uncomplicated pulmonary MDR-TB or XDR-TB excludes the following manifestations:
  • Disseminated, meningeal, or central nervous system disease
  • Advanced human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (CD4 <50 cells/microL) and extrapulmonary disease
  • Extensive (or advanced) TB disease, such as bilateral cavitary disease or extensive parenchymal damage on chest radiography
  • Pregnancy
