Thumb fracture midshaft proximal phalanx

The AP and lateral plain radiographs above show a fracture of the proximal phalanx of the thumb with apex volar angulation and no involvement of the physis. Despite attempted closed reduction, there was persistent fracture instability and unacceptable angulation in the sagittal plane requiring surgical referral.
