Management of tics associated with Tourette syndrome

* Education about Tourette syndrome is important for the patient, caregivers, peers, teachers, and employers. Tics follow a fluctuating course, and therapy is individualized. Treatment for tics seldom leads to complete cessation.

¶ Treatment is indicated when symptoms cause distress or dysfunction by interfering with social interactions, school/job performance, or activities of daily living, or by causing discomfort, pain, or injury.
