Evaluation of pediatric generalized joint hypermobility (pGJH) and pediatric generalized hypermobility spectrum disorder (pgHSD)
Algorithm is designed for patients between the ages of 5 to 18 years who have not reached biologic maturity (defined as skeletal maturity with growth velocity under 1 cm/year on 2 measurements taken 3 months apart, or mature bone age radiograph).

* Refer to content on clinical manifestations and diagnosis of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and hypermobility spectrum disorder.

¶ Defined as having ≥2 of the following: episodic activity-related pain that is not chronic in frequency or duration; recurrent joint dislocations, recurrent atraumatic joint subluxations, and/or subluxation on physical examination in >1 joint; and 1 major (requiring surgical repair) and/or current multiple tears of minor tendons and/or ligaments.

Δ Defined as having ≥1 of the following: chronic primary pain, chronic fatigue, functional gastrointestinal disorders, functional bladder disorders, primary dysautonomia, anxiety.

◊ Defined as having ≥3 of the following: unusually soft skin, mild skin hyperextensibility, unexplained stretch marks, atrophic scarring, bilateral piezogenic papules on the heels, recurrent or multiple (>2) hernias.
