Case of viral pontocerebellitis due to HSV-2 in an infant
6-month-old
with viral pontocerebellitis due to HSV-2 confirmed by cerebrospinal fluid PCR. Transverse axial T2-weighted images
(A to C) show foci of abnormal T2 hyperintensity (arrows) in left basis pontis and bilateral, left
greater than right, cerebellar hemispheres. These hyperintense foci are even
more conspicuous as bright signal on diffusion-weighted MR images (D to F).
HSV-2: herpes simplex virus type 2; MRI: magnetic resonance imaging; PCR: polymerase chain reaction.
