Severe collapse of MTP plantar plate

Severe collapse of MTP plantar plate
The photographs above show the appearance of a foot that has sustained severe collapse of the plantar plate at multiple MTP joints. With an intact plantar plate, the heads of the metatarsals have a gentle concavity and form an upside-down U. Collapse of the plates causes the metatarsal heads to sag, giving a convex or U-like appearance to the forefoot (area within blue circle).
