Securing a peripheral intravenous line with tape and a transparent dressing

After successful intravenous (IV) line placement:

(A) Secure the catheter with a transparent sterile dressing as shown.

(B) Place a piece of thin tape (sticky side up) under the hub distal to its connection with the IV tubing.

(C) Cross over the ends of the tape and secure them to the sterile dressing. Apply a second piece of tape to a loop of IV tubing proximal to the connection with the IV catheter to reduce the chance of dislodgement when administering medications or IV fluids.
