(A) The components of the self-inflating bag with a unidirectional, disc-type, nonrebreather outlet valve.
(B) The disc-type valve is a single silicone disc. During bag compression or spontaneous patient inhalation, the disc retracts against the expiratory port allowing gas to flow from the device to the patient while closing the expiratory port to air entrainment. This mechanism permits the delivery of 95 to 100% oxygen when oxygen flow to the device is 10 to 15 L/minute. During bag release or patient exhalation, the disc returns to the original closed position, allowing gas to exit through the expiratory port and preventing re-entry of expired air into the device.
