ERA: enthesitis related arthritis; IA: intraarticular; IL: interleukin; NSAID: nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug; TNF: tumor necrosis factor.
* In children who do not tolerate oral NSAIDs, topical diclofenac may be an alternative for treating small-joint ERA.
¶ In patients with mild arthritis that is not interfering with daily activities, it may be reasonable to defer IA glucocorticoids, especially if sedation would be required.
Δ For moderate to severe peripheral arthritis, sacroiliitis, and/or enthesitis, patients may benefit from the addition of a short course of oral glucocorticoids as bridging therapy while starting systemic immunosuppression (eg, 10 to 20 mg/day of prednisone for no more than 2 weeks).
