Dynamic patellar apprehension test

Dynamic patellar apprehension test
The dynamic (or moving) patellar apprehension test is a sensitive test for lateral patellar instability. The test is performed by having the patient move their knee from extension to about 90 degrees of flexion and then back to extension while the clinician places pressure along the medial or lateral side of the patella. A positive test occurs when medial pressure (forcing the patella laterally) causes a sensation of instability or apprehension, while lateral pressure alleviates such sensations.
