Distal interphalangeal (DIP) finger splint types

Extension splinting of a mallet fracture. The DIP is immobilized in extension while the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP) joint is left free. Three commonly used splints are displayed.

(A) Stack splint.

(B) Perforated thermoplastic splint.

(C) Alumafoam splint.
