Evaluation and management of hyperkyphosis in older adults

* Not all patients require an x-ray Cobb angle measurement for the diagnosis of hyperkyphosis, however some patients may already have had one.

¶ If clinical parameters are used to measure kyphosis, obtain a plain spine radiograph to rule out underlying osteoporotic vertebral fracture. Patients with an acute spinal fracture should have a physical therapy (PT) evaluation prior to initiating spine strengthening exercises.
