Terlipressin continuous infusion dosing in adults for hepatorenal syndrome-acute kidney injury (HRS-AKI)

Terlipressin continuous infusion dosing in adults for hepatorenal syndrome-acute kidney injury (HRS-AKI)
Terlipressin may be administered as intermittent boluses or as a continuous infusion. In the United States, intermittent bolus dosing has regulatory approval. However, continuous infusion may confer a lower rate of complications, most likely due to lower effective cumulative doses. Patients on terlipressin therapy should receive concomitant intravenous albumin while being monitored for ischemic side effects, volume overload, and the development of respiratory failure. Refer to UpToDate content on hepatorenal syndrome treatment and prognosis for details.

IV: intravenous.

* Day 1 serum creatinine is the last available value before initiating terlipressin therapy.

¶ In many countries, terlipressin dosage is expressed as terlipressin acetate. In the United States, terlipressin dosage is expressed as the amount of terlipressin. Terlipressin acetate 1 mg is equivalent to terlipressin 0.85 mg.
