The Finkelstein test is used to help diagnose de Quervain tendinopathy. It is performed by actively or passively flexing the thumb and ulnarly deviating the wrist, thereby stretching the extensor tendons. A positive test is marked by pain at the radial styloid. It is sometimes mistaken for the Eichhoff test, which involves the patient flexing the thumb by grasping it with the fingers of the same hand.
