Engage stakeholders |
- In coordination with the coach, engage athletes, parents, athletic trainers, and administrators in education and planning. Note underestimated harms associated with ACL injury (eg, risk of reduced performance, reinjury, long-term OA).
- Emphasize the importance of ACL injury prevention for both lifelong wellness and current team success (eg, more athletic players who stay injury-free).
|
Provide coach education and training |
- Workshops and/or hands-on training increase knowledge and confidence in delivering an IPP.
- Programs that include demonstrations, practice sessions, and feedback are more effective than lectures or other passive formats.
|
Assist coaches with perceived constraints |
- Provide strategies for integrating the IPP into preseason and regular practice.
- Identify IPPs that are readily integrated (eg, FIFA 11+, RIIP Reps app).
- If necessary to address time constraints, emphasize plyometric, dynamic, and strength exercises, and dispense with static balance exercises.
|
Provide ongoing support and feedback |
- Perform regular check-ins and give useful feedback about performance.
- Encourage use of appropriate digital tools or apps to assist and monitor implementation (eg, RIIP Reps app, Remain in the Game app).
