Reported Use
Bronchodilator used for symptomatic relief of asthma, other conditions such as chronic bronchitis or emphysema, and prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm.
Dosage Range
Adults:
Asthma or bronchospasm, acute:
Oral inhalation:
Metered-dose inhaler: Mild to moderate symptoms: 1 inhalation initially; may repeat in 5 minutes as needed; maximum dose: 8 inhalations/day. For severe exacerbation of asthma: 4 inhalations every 10 minutes or 8 inhalations every 20 minutes for up to 4 hours, then every 1 to 4 hours as needed.
Solution for nebulization: Mild to moderate symptoms: 0.5 to 1.25 mg (2 to 5 drops) every 4 hours as needed; maximum: 2 mg (8 drops)/day. For severe exacerbation of asthma: 2.5 to 5 mg (10 to 20 drops) inhaled via nebulization every 20 minutes for 3 doses, then 2.5 to 10 mg (10 to 40 drops) every 1 to 4 hours as needed.
Oral:
Solution: Oral: 2.5 to 5 mg 3 times daily
Tablets: Oral: 2.5 mg 3 times daily
Exercised-induced bronchospasm: Oral inhalation:
Metered-dose inhaler: 1 or 2 inhalations prior to exercise; maximum dose: 8 inhalations/day
Solution for nebulization: 0.5 mg (2 drops) inhaled prior to exercise
