Skin protectant: Topical: Apply to affected area(s) liberally 2 to 4 times daily, or as needed. Formulation-specific dosing instructions may vary; refer to manufacturer's labeling.

Adverse Reactions

There are no adverse reactions listed in the manufacturer's labeling.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation; bleeding wounds (Atopavo).

Warnings/Precautions

Disease-related concerns:

• Cancer: Radiation therapy: Do not apply within 4 hours of radiation treatment. These agents dissolve fuchsin, a dye used to define the margins of the radiation fields.

• Skin grafts: Do not apply to dermal grafts until graft has successfully taken.

Concurrent drug therapy issues:

• Infection: If clinical signs of infection are present, appropriate anti-infective should be initiated. Use of these agents may continue during anti-infective therapy.

Dosage form specific issues:

• Atopavo: Use is not recommended on skin rashes due to allergies. Use is not recommended prior to extended sun exposure; does not contain sunscreen. A temporary (10 to 15 minutes) tingling sensation may occur after application. Re-evaluate use if improvement is not seen within 10 to 14 days.

• Iliderm: Contains silver nanoparticles; avoid use prior to MRI.

• Shea nut oil: Atopiclair, Promiseb, and PruClair contain shea butter, a product of shea nut oil. If patient has a known allergy to tree nuts or nut oils, consult physician prior to administration.

Administration: Adult

Topical: For external use only; do not apply to eye or mucous membranes. Do not apply within 4 hours of a radiation treatment. Some agents may dissolve fuchsin dye, which is used to define the margins of the radiation fields. Consult physician prior to use if patient undergoing radiation therapy involving use of fuchsin dye. If skin is broken, cover with a dressing. Some products must be shaken prior to use; refer to manufacturer's labeling. Formulation-specific application instructions may vary; refer to manufacturer's labeling.

Foam: Read instructions carefully as certain products require priming of the device before use.

Use: Labeled Indications

Skin protectant: Counteract dryness and itchy skin; lubricate and moisturize skin; aid in protection and healing of superficial or full thickness wounds, burns (first and second degree), dermal ulcers, full thickness wounds, pressure sores, and minor abrasions; relief of itching, burning, and pain experienced with various types of dermatoses (including atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, and radiation dermatitis); dermal donor and graft site management.
