ANSWER — 

Incorrect.

The patient has more frequent and more persistent episodes of hypoglycemia.

The problem in this patient is not excessive hepatic glucose output but variable glucose levels. While metformin alone does not cause hypoglycemia, it may cause or exacerbate hypoglycemia in combination with agents that do so, such as insulin and sulfonylureas.
