Progression of radiographic findings in a six-year-old boy with osteomyelitis of the fibula

(A) Plain radiographs (after 1 week of swelling and pain in the calf) were initially interpreted as normal.

(B) A plain radiograph obtained 4 days after the initial films demonstrates periosteal reaction and cortical thickening.

(C) T1-weighted magnetic resonance image with gadolinium demonstrates enhancement of the fibula marrow space and surrounding soft tissues.
