| Primary snoring | Symptoms of OSA may be absent |
| Underlying pulmonary disease (eg, nocturnal desaturations, mucus impaction) | Symptoms and signs of underlying disease, such as cough, wheeze, and dyspnea, or known diagnosis may be present |
| Sleep-related laryngospasm | Abrupt interruption of sleep associated with a feeling of suffocation and associated with stridor |
| Abnormal swallowing disorder | History of dysphagia or underlying disorder associated with swallowing abnormality (eg, scleroderma) |
| Panic attacks | Sudden onset tachycardia, diaphoresis, chest discomfort |
| Nocturnal asthma | History of asthma or allergies, associated dyspnea or wheeze |
| Gastroesophageal reflux disease | Symptoms of heart burn, history of peptic ulcer disease |
