Tonsillectomy

An Allis clamp is used to grasp the upper portion of the tonsil. As it is pulled anteriorly and medially, the anterior tonsillar pillar mucosa is divided superiorly to inferiorly. With the superior pole of the tonsil freed, the Allis clamp can be repositioned as needed to grasp the inferior tonsil and the tonsil dissected out of its bed. Control of perforating vessels is performed as they are encountered.
