Pelvic organ prolapse

When the "pelvic floor" muscles relax, organs can drop down and bulge into the vagina. In each picture, the black arrow shows how the organs move.

(A) The organs are normal.
(B) Prolapse of the bladder (called a "cystocele" or "anterior vaginal wall prolapse").
(C) Prolapse of the rectum (called a "rectocele" or "posterior vaginal wall prolapse").
(D) Prolapse of the uterus (called uterine prolapse).
