Thyroxine suppresses goiter growth

Relative changes in thyroid volume in patients with nontoxic goiter treated with placebo, T4 plus CBZ, or T4 alone for nine months and then followed for an additional nine months. T4 suppressed thyroid volume, an effect that persisted only during the phase of active treatment. CBZ was of no added benefit.
