Algorithm for the endoscopic management of central airway obstruction
Algorithm for the endoscopic management of central airway obstruction
This algorithm applies mostly to patients with central airway obstruction due to lung cancer, usually non-small cell lung cancer.
* Rigid bronchoscopy preferred. ¶ Careful airway evaluation and airway computed tomograpy scan, ± flexible bronchoscopy, ± endobronchial ultrasound, ± autofluorescence. Δ Possibly with presurgical endoscopic intervention. ◊ Silicone/new hybrid stents generally preferred. Treatment may be followed by radiation if appropriate. § Can be used singly or in combination, may need stenting.
