After a mean incubation period of three days, a febrile prodromal period may be observed for a day prior to the onset of gastrointestinal symptoms. Diarrhea lasts a mean of seven days; abdominal pain may persist slightly longer. Organisms may be shed from the stool for several weeks following symptom resolution.
