Histologic appearance of an esophageal adenocarcinoma

Histologic appearance of an esophageal adenocarcinoma
Low power view of a biopsy specimen from the mass revealed poorly differentiated carcinoma in the lamina propria, infiltrating beneath an unremarkable squamous epithelium. The malignancy consists of sheets of neoplastic cells. However, focal gland formation is identified (arrow), allowing classification as poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma.
