In these paired apical images (inverted), the atrioventricular valves can be seen to move in the same plane. In both panels, there are abnormal mitral valve attachments to the trabecular portion of the intraventricular septum in addition to the more normal septal attachments of the tricuspid valve. In the right hand panel, color flow mapping demonstrates the left-to-right flow across the large septal defect.
