Epithelial diffuse peritoneal malignant mesothelioma in a 55-year-old man who formerly worked in a shipyard and complained of abdominal discomfort
(Panel A, Panel B) Intravenous contrast-enhanced CT scans show complex ascites, serosal implants on the liver margin (black arrows in Panel A), extension of the tumor across the diaphragm (white arrowheads in Panel A), and extensive tumor encasement of the small bowel (arrowheads in Panel B). The tumor also extends throughout the small bowel mesentery. (Panel C) Photograph of the small bowel and mesentery at autopsy shows thick, nodular tumor on the serosal surface of the bowel and throughout the mesentery. The opened segment of the small bowel (arrowhead) shows tumor thickening the bowel wall.
