Longitudinal effects of aging

Longitudinal effects of aging

Linear segment plots for total T and free T index versus age are shown for males with T and SHBG values on at least two visits. Each linear segment has a slope equal to the mean of the individual longitudinal slopes in each decade, and is centered on the median age, for each cohort of males from the second to the ninth decade. Numbers in parentheses represent the number of males in each cohort. With the exception of free T index in the ninth decade, segments show significant change in slopes for T or free T index over the entire age range.

(Top panel) To convert T from nmol/L to ng/dL, multiply by 28.84.
T: testosterone; SHBG: sex hormone-binding globulin.
