Total body surface area of anterior trunk including size of breast
Total body surface area of anterior trunk including size of breast
The size of the breast is used to determine the percentage of total body surface area burned. The graph shows how the ratio of surface area of anterior to posterior trunk burns varies with bra cup size. The points represent the mean ratio for each cup size; the error bars represent the standard error at each point.
Anterior/posterior trunk ratio = m(bra cup size) + c, where m = the gradient of the graph and c = a constant. For every increase in cup size, the surface area of a woman's anterior trunk increased by a factor of 0.1 relative to the posterior truncal surface area.
This graph should be used in conjunction with the standard tables for estimating total body surface area burned in adults.
