Simvastatin improves survival in cardiac transplant recipients

Seventy-two heart transplant recipients were randomly assigned to simvastatin or placebo and followed for four years; then all patients were maintained on simvastatin for another four years. Survival at eight years was significantly better for those patients who were treated with simvastatin throughout the eight-year course (89 versus 60 percent).
