Metastatic thyroid cancer: MRI of the cervical spine

Metastatic thyroid cancer: MRI of the cervical spine
MRI of the cervical spine in a 67-year-old patient with a 2-year history of rib pain and a destructive lesion in the right 7th rib, which, on biopsy, revealed metastatic follicular thyroid cancer. MRI shows destruction of C2 (arrows). They were treated with total thyroidectomy, external beam radiation, radioiodine, and spinal stabilization. Five years later, the patient developed more bone metastases, but there was no evidence of progression of the lesion in C2.
MRI: magnetic resonance imaging.
