Cervical conization

Cervical conization is the surgical removal of a cone-shaped portion of cervix. This can be done in order to diagnose cervical cancer (called a "cone biopsy") or, in some cases, to treat very early-stage cervical cancer by removing the cancerous area.
The procedure is performed through the vagina, usually in the operating room after the woman receives either general or regional anesthesia.
