1. 48 to 72 hours prior to the beginning of stool collection, subject is started on a high-fat diet*. |
2. All stools are collected into a single container for a full 72 hours. Stool container is kept refrigerated during collection. |
3. During the collection, all food and fluid intake is recorded. A record of all bowel movements is kept. Intake record is analyzed for total dietary fat intake. |
4. Collected stool is homogenized and analyzed for fat by the method of van de Kamer[1]. MCT will not be measured by this method. |
5. CFA is calculated using the following equation: CFA = (Dietary fat – Stool fat) ÷ Dietary fat |
