The anatomy of the proximal humerus

The solid blue line corresponds to the appearance of the physis on radiograph. The dashed blue line (sometimes referred to as the anatomic neck) provides the outer limit of the shoulder joint capsule. The dotted red line is the surgical neck, a common location for fractures.
