Importance of thrombopoietin (TPO) and its receptor (MPL) in deficient mice

Importance of thrombopoietin (TPO) and its receptor (MPL) in deficient mice

Platelet counts in mice with different genotypes. MPL refers to the gene for the thrombopoietin receptor, c-Mpl. TPO refers to the thrombopoietin gene.

  • +/+: Wild-type for the indicated gene
  • +/–: Heterozygous deficient for the indicated gene
  • –/–: Homozygous deficient for the indicated gene

The platelet count is 10 to 20% of normal in homozygous TPO or c-Mpl-deficient mice and 65% of normal in heterozygous TPO-deficient mice.
