Mitral valve motion in dilated cardiomyopathy

M-mode echocardiogram, recorded at the level of the mitral valve leaflets, shows a dilated left ventricle. The interventricular septum and posterior left ventricular wall are thinned and hypokinetic. The movement of both the anterior and posterior mitral valve leaflets is well seen and there are prominent echoes from the chordae tendineae due to the enlarged left ventricular chamber.
