Pulmonic regurgitation continuous wave Doppler

Pulmonic regurgitation continuous wave Doppler
This echocardiographic frame demonstrates the use of the pulmonary insufficiency Doppler jet velocity to estimate mean pulmonary artery pressure. The continuous wave Doppler beam is aligned with the pulmonary regurgitant jet in the right ventricular outflow tract (with angle of interrogation within 20 degrees of the angle of flow). The peak pulmonary regurgitant velocity (v) is 1.5 m/s, which translates into a mean pulmonary artery pressure of 19 mmHg using the equation of 4v2 + (RAP) = mean pulmonary arterial pressure, in which RAP is the estimated right atrial pressure (10 mmHg in this example). Peak pulmonary regurgitant velocities >2.2 m/s are generally consistent with elevated mean pulmonary artery pressures.
