Stimulating (in Graves' disease) and blocking (in Hashimoto's thyroiditis) anti-TSH receptor antibodies may bind to different regions of the ECD.

TSH: thyroid-stimulating hormone; ECD: extracellular domain; LRD: leucine-rich repeat region; ECLs: extracellular loops; TMD: transmembrane domain; ICLs: intracellular loops.
