Intracardiac echocardiogram of transseptal catheterization

The intracardiac echocardiography catheter is in the right atrium and shows a needle tenting the interatrial septum just before puncture occurs. Transseptal puncture enables access to the mitral valve from the left atrium for percutaneous mitral balloon commissurotomy.
