Prevalence of bacteria identified in respiratory secretions from patients with cystic fibrosis, by age cohort
The graph shows the proportion of individuals in various age groups who had positive cultures for each of these bacterial species during 2019. We did not include data from the 2020 and 2021 Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Patient Registry reports, which may be misleading because many fewer cultures were collected during that period due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
P. aeruginosa: Pseudomonas aeruginosa; H. influenza: Haemophilus influenza; B. cepacia complex: Burkholderia cepacia complex; S. aureus: Staphylococcus aureus; MRSA: methicillin-resistant S. aureus; Achromobacter: Achromobacter xylosoxidans; S. maltophilia: Stenotrophomonas maltophilia; MDR-PA: multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa; COVID-19: coronavirus disease 2019.
