Diagnostic criteria for short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks |
- At least 20 attacks fulfilling criteria B through D
|
- Moderate or severe unilateral head pain, with orbital, supra-orbital, temporal and/or other trigeminal distribution, lasting for 1 to 600 seconds and occurring as single stabs, a series of stabs, or in a sawtooth pattern
|
- At least one of the following five cranial autonomic symptoms or signs, ipsilateral to the pain:

- Conjunctival injection and/or lacrimation
|
- Nasal congestion and/or rhinorrhea
|
- Eyelid edema
|
- Forehead and facial sweating
|
- Miosis and/or ptosis
|
- Attacks have a frequency of at least one a day
|
- Not better accounted for by another ICHD-3 diagnosis

Diagnostic criteria for SUNCT |
- Attacks fulfilling criteria for short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks
|
- Both conjunctival injection and lacrimation (tearing) ipsilateral to the pain
|
Diagnostic criteria for SUNA |
- Attacks fulfilling criteria for short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks
|
- Not more than one of conjunctival injection or lacrimation (tearing) ipsilateral to the pain
|
Episodic SUNCT or SUNA: |
Attacks occurring in periods lasting from seven days to one year, separated by pain-free periods lasting at least three months |
Chronic SUNCT or SUNA: |
Attacks occurring without a remission period, or with remissions lasting less than three months, for at least one year. |
